Blog 4: Doom. Or rather doom that points to an abandoned place within.

The Kernel: Doom is the hangover from having experienced the loss of vulnerability. As such, Doom is often an euphemism that points to an empty psychological reservoir of this loss. Consequentially, when we abandon ourselves from the abandonment of what we need (core needs), we also vacate the planet from what it needs. Only then can we see Climate Crisis is an allegory for we cannot give to the world when (and what) we haven’t given to ourselves.

Blog 3: Close, Real, and Immediate

The Kernel: Climate Crisis suffers from several psychological discounting because the nature of its data is not Close, Real, and Immediate. This discounting is compounded further as we filter the same crisis more also with psychological distancing to maintain self-consistency and consistency with the outer world. We shield ourselves from its impact through distortions, selective perceptions, and the here-and-now time alignment phasing. One of the paramount challenges in mobilizing Climate Crisis action is the ability to deliver a nebulous threat such as Climate Crisis in a non-nebulous way. This barrier calls for a completely different delivery system that not only addresses the fuzzy data but, more importantly, also the core need that is behind this shielding. The latter has not been sufficiently discussed exculpatorily even as it remains a persistent source of frustration in the 30 plus years of climate activism.

Blog 2: Needs, specifically core needs

The Kernel: Our failure in progress is often not just caused from our inactions, but also from our inability to correctly diagnose problems. This inability limits us to solutions for symptoms without solutions for causes. When we see past the played-out narrative of greed, self-centeredness, apathy, et al. as causes for our social inertia, we will arrive at a place of needs, poignantly core needs. And since core needs are central to everyone, tapping into core needs is a powerful and accessible place for change. The magic of change truly lies in these places, magic we will unpack with subsequent blogs.
